Skills Learned: Livetype and Sound

Of course no sequence is complete without adding the right type of soundtrack and the right type of titles.

When the time came to do the titles in our sequence the knowledge we had learned from the previous tutorial came very much in handy.

Fonts

When choosing the fonts for our titles we had remembered that there were two types of fonts, sans-serif and serif. Sans-serif fonts are relatively simple. Serif fonts on the other hand are rather more elaborate and have little details at the end of the letters that are called serifs. We as a group decided that we wanted the style of our titles to be simple and unintrusive.

Effects

The theme of simple and unintrusive carried on to the effects. Although we did add effects so that the words would flicker whenever they appeared it was done to keep the flow of tension and suspense of the whole sequence.

Positioning

Finally we had to decide whether the titles were to appear over the sequence as it was playing or on a black background. We chose to put them on a black background because that way it doesn't distract the audience's attention away from the scene unfolding before them. We also made the titles appear right in the centre of the screen because that is where the majority of the audiences' vision is always directed at.

Lastly:

When we discussed the overall feel we wanted the soundtrack in our sequence to portray we decided to keep it relatively simple but still enough to build the tension and suspense that we wanted. Similar to the titles.

Again the tutorial on how to use Soundtrack Pro helped alot when it came to putting together the various clips of music and keeping it in-line with the title sequence. We could effectively fade in and fade out sets of sounds, link tracks together and add various sound effects at just the right moments.

Our final soundtrack really kept with the overall pace of the scenes and helped to add fear and suspense to the title sequence.
