Filming in the dark

Because our film was set at night it made it considerably difficult to light up the actors and the foreground so that it is visible to the audience but still keeping the background dark and making it not so obvious that it looks like there is a light source.

When filming outside this was easier because whenever we lit the foreground the sky in the background was always dark and this creates the sense that it is dark even though the audience can clearly see what is going on.

Inside however it was a different story because the background and the foreground were within close distance of each other. For example we often had to try and light the actor's face without lighting up the walls of the room and losing the sense of darkness.

There is also the scenes where another of our actors is in the cupboard, again because of the closed space the challenge was to try and light the actor and some of the contents of the cupboard without bathing the entire inside in light.
