First practice for film editing

In my group we did bag swap which was really fun to film. After filming the shots of the film we had to learn how to edit and do the title sequence so our film can be a really good peace of work. So before editing our film we had to learn what to do ,so we went to the Mac room and started to use Live Type which is a program that has so many different fonts and backgrounds to use for the title sequences. On the Live Type there is effects that moves the words around, up/ down which can be useful to us for a horror thriller title sequences. I have learnt now to make the writing bigger and how to colour it in. after using Live Type we had used another programme which was used to do the sound for the film. There is so many sound effects, there is more then a instrument band. So I was playing around with the sound effects and making funny , weird music. After me and my group started editing our film which I have learnt how to cut the shots and add them together.

the miss call....

Today we had done our second film practices do develop more skills before doing our final peace. I think that the film was well done but there were mistakes. The beginning of the film looks fine but after Clara takes her time taking to her self does not look professional. In stead of Clara taking to her self a friend could of come and said hello and have shot / reveres shot . After Clara getting her magazine back to read just then the phone should ring so it would not take long because it looks boring. When Clara looks at some thing on the magazine I think there should be a shot of what she is looking at because it would show what cried of character she is ( girlish). On the next shot when Clara is on the phone with her boyfriend , there could have been close-ups of her face to show how worried she is. I think in the phone shot it shows the table too long , the table is nothing so it should not be too long to shot just the table without the phone. I like the shot of Sheree coming into the class room because the camera pans her to the door. When sheree comes into the class room with Clara in the same shot, its really effective but again its too long, instead it could have had the same cried of shot but in a different angle inside the room may be. There is a mistake again with the speech because its not in time and there is works missing. The shot / reveres shot is good but the lighting is really poor because u can see Clara all with this light but sheree is in the dark and you can hardly see her face. What I think we should of done is have the lights all on in the class room because you can see outside the class room with all this light and then in the class room its all dark, it does not go together. I think there should have been more shots of the face , more shots of sheree’s face when Clara tells sheree about her boy friend being at the police station because its cried of a shock to sheree. I really like the ending but I think it has some thing that looks wrong, I think its because some of the shots go fast but some go slow, so the timing is not good at the end.

Miss Call Evaluation

This is the short film we did on Wednesday 10/02/10. For the relatively short amount of time we had to film and edit which was slightly over 3 hours i feel that we did pretty well.

Although some of the shots can carry on for a bit too long and I think the audience could get rather bored after a while if the camera hangs on one point for too long a period. Other than that I like the overall story and the ending in particular.

Media Filming

Started on our first short film and it's coming along quite well.
The other day we were introduced to the camera and got straight to filming and heavy use.
We also got some time to use soundtrack pro, Live type and the editing software which was informative and useful when it came down to adding music and titles and getting all the shots just the way we wanted them to look and feel.

The sequence we were given to do was a simple bag swap senario. We spent alot of time filming and were the last to finish all our shots but I think the extra time really paid off as we got some really good shots that were just what we wanted.

I look forward to receiving the good and bad comments when others see it as it will let us know what we are doing right and what we need to improve on...

The Bag Swap - Editing

My group were given the Bag Swap for our Title Sequence. After filming the neccessary shots that we needed for the title sequence we started to edit it together. Whilst editing I learnt some new skills, such as how to add sound to the sequence and also how to add the titles to the shots.

teacher comment

You all seem to be working well in this group, and show a good, developing, understanding of thrillers and the role played by the title sequence. Good sense of enthusiasm here.

Sherlock Holmes

The title sequence I looked at was Sherlock Holmes. The style of the title sequence makes it look very important and gives it a period feel. The opening titles introduce the actors, director, executive producer and the other people involved in the production of the film. In the sequence there are drawing of the various actors such as Jude Law as his character in the film, this goes along side the titles and makes it interesting for the viewer. The graphic effects of the images fading in and out of each shot makes it look very mysterious. The shots used are medium close up of the characters and long shots to show the locations. The way in which the title sequence is shot makes the film seem like it's going to be very interesting and mysterious, we won't really know what's gonna happen next, it also gives the view peeks at what might happen in the film.
