Question:- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

Overall experience
Throughout my experience of practical coursework i had gained a lot of new key skills that i will never forget; I will also pass on what i have learnt to others who need help or advice about the filming process. The filming process wasn't as easy as i thought it would have been. I never really took into consideration the amount of planning put into making all three filming project we did. From our first task The Bag Swap to our finally piece The Duo; there is clear difference in camera shots and techniques used that made The Duo so success as it is. What i also learnt was how to use how work the Mc PC's, before the coursework i wasn't so familiar with how to carry out basic programmes on it. Let alone use the editing software and soundtrack software; what i especially learnt was how to do stills successfully (Command, Shift 4) learning this made most of the blogging process run smoother along with know how to upload a video all so. However picking up simple skills like creating a still wasn't as simple i thought it was initially going to be. When i kept practising it i eventually got how to do it, which was a relief because the teacher's and technicians weren't always on hand.
Filming Process

All three filming processes were challenging, from The bag swap, to The Phone call (Preliminary task) to our final piece The Duo. Filming all three task was difficult only because; the planning for each task wasn't well planned properly nor constructed/ carried out to what we had expected it to be. This was proper clear when we did our first task the bag swap. Not enough planning wasn't putting to this personally because; when we actually started filming things were going wrong because there wasn't enough preparation. For an example we didn't know how to carry out certain shots. At that stage in time we didn't know what we could produce with the camera until we actually filmed. Some of shots in the second preliminary task came from luck fiddling about with the camera. One of the shots was when the camera panned when Sheree was walking. The shot came by chance, i was adjusting the zoom on the camera and so decided on using the camera technique. However what i did learn from the second preliminary task was how to make shots shorted and how make effect match shots. The change was demonstrated in The Duo. The opening of the title sequence starts with quick short cuts of the rubber breaking over gate. This open mimics the scene when Sheree walks into the room where i was sitting wait for her. The difference was that in The Duo we used different shot types like; Low angle shot (LAS), Medium long shot(MLS). The difference was that we learnt how to carry out the positions of shots correctly and also how to take the same shot form different angles to get prospective of it. We was the only group that came up wight the idea of filming at night-time, and because of this our title sequence was automatically unique form the rest. However filming at night-time wasn't as straightforward as i or an member of my group thought it would have been. We had to redo several shots because there were too dark to edit anything. After the third filming day and the deadline drawing close we mastered the key idea of filming in the dark. To make the filming successfully and straightforward for ourselves we learnt that; to filming in the dark black background and VERY well lit object. To get the background well lit this involves having lighting. Which in our case the lighting only lasted for 30 minutes which was very frustrating because; some shots didn't got to plan and the battery would waste because we had to keep redoing them.
Filming at night

The experience of filming at night wasn't a good one personally due to the lighting; i wouldn't advise it only. Only if the person had real patience and wouldn't argue with there group members. The lighting caused a bit of confrontation in our group. However having had to re filming those very dark shots, we would have never learnt how to make dark shots as good as they turned out to be. The Duo was a sucess and i would do the following to change the way we went about filming, planning and editing:-

  • Plan every single shot needed (then get extra from other angles)
  • Make and animatic storyboard before filming to see if shot fits together
  • Make sure we have very reliable actors and actresses
  • Have more patience with my group when filming
  • Contribute more in the actual editing on FCP.

Question:- How does your media product represent particular social group?

Hannah is both Max's and Sheree's friend, they both thought of her when i was pitching the characters for The Duo. So when they asked her to star in our title sequence The Duo; Hannah agreed and was on hand at all times. She was Very ea
sy to work and helped with positioning of shots if needed; she was also very tolerant of us when we had to re-filming.

Hannah is of the Black ethnic race; so when we were looking for the right actors for The Duo. Hannah was chosen because she suited the part perfectly and we didn't take her colour of her skin into much consideration. To us it didn't matter at all, what matter the most was how well she listen to the director and performed well.

Although our title sequence doesn't depict on her ethnic background; We wanted The Duo to base on the cliche theme "Damsel In Distress." Hannah is a female so, we wanted to play on on her sex and use her as a key stereotype seen in most thrillers.

Here are Pictures of Hannah in different scenes in our title sequence The Duo
